2018 Sun Eyewear Trends
For many of us, Spring is about to begin and this heralds the countdown to warm sunny Summer days! It’s time to get acquainted with the hottest sun eyewear trends of 2018 and start making the necessary preparations.
1. The Cat-Eye
2017 saw the resurgence of the classic cat-eye shape and in particular, we saw brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Bottega Veneta presenting oversized cat-eye sunglasses on the runway for Fall 2017. The re-interpretation of the classic cat-eye shape also prompted designers to add their creative spin with wavy or geometric trims and ostentatious embellishments around the rim.
For 2018, we believe that the cat-eye shape will continue its popularity but in a smaller package with a more pronounced sharp edge at the corners. Brands such as Louis Vuitton have presented this design at the Spring/Summer 2018 fashion show.
2. Sports Frames on High Street
We’re also expecting the trend of bigger frames to continue but with a unique twist. Mask lenses are indeed popular in the world of sports, used by athletes such as skiers where the interference of wind or sunlight glare from the corners can impede performance. Mask lenses are also used for the purpose of safety.
Brands such as Chanel, Moschino and Ralph Lauren have applied the mask or shield design to fashion sunglasses. Replacing the bridge is a one piece lens design offering the wearer an avant-garde look.
3. Big Frames Goes Teeny Tiny
They’re not the most practical, but small frame sunglasses are in vogue. This 90s throwback is regaining influence as a result of celebrities rocking these shades of late. Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid and Rihanna have been spotted wearing micro frame sunglasses both on and off the red carpet. The famed rapper Kanye West is a strong advocate of this trend. Brands such as Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and Miu Miu presented this design on the runway.
We think it’s the statement accessory of the year but it’s not for the faint hearted!
